How my 20s entrepreneurship desire shaped my career path

While my friends were busy going out and enjoying their weekend fun, my mindset was set on how to start and grow a business that I really love. Even though most people may be satisfied with working a 9 to 5 job, working their way up the corporate ladder, I still felt that desire of real self of fulfillment to start a business I was more passionate about.


While working a 9 to 5 job, I developed the desire of working on my business venture over the weekends, to gain more knowledge and finally take the first steps to kick start my career as a wedding planner. My friends who worked a 9 to 5 job didn't really understand that it wasn’t just about having an extra income but it was more about being able to use my special talents and turning it into a business.




Few years into discovering my strengths and abilities and preparing myself as a start up business, I became more creative with my ideas and being able to express myself, as well as creating a work process that would meet customer demands. I started getting hands on experience supporting small events and by my mid 20s, I officially launched my business - Golden Aisle Weddings. If there is one thing I learned when starting my business is not expecting to get results immediately. In order to build a business, I needed to be patient for the long run, not just thinking about where I want my business to be in a year; but thinking about my goals for 10 years down the road and how I was going to execute to make all of my ambitions come to fruition.


As a small start-up business, it required a great deal of planning, enough initial capital to sustain me during the start-up period and that was why during my 9 to 5 job, I started saving more, cutting down on unnecessary expenses so that I could afford the very little resources needed for my business. As I started getting clients, I wanted to share my experience with the world, especially for others who were still deciding on whether starting a business was ideal for them; and so I launched my first book in 2015, starting a wedding planning career with limited funds.


There were tough times that came with running my business and being smart with my money helped me cultivate the discipline to manage my finances. One thing I can advise any young aspiring entrepreneur is that to be successful requires you to go where others may not have been. Ensure you set yourself small goals to begin with, entrepreneurship can begin at any age. Whilst it is paramount to have a vision and long-term dream, always make sure you break this down into achievable goals to stay motivated.
